Backing British Bricks: Industry Minister Visits Ibstock Brick to See Local Manufacturing First-Hand

One of the best parts of being an MP is getting out to see the people and businesses that make our community tick. An even greater part is being able to showcase those wonderful businesses – so vital to not just our area’s success, but to the country’s – to Ministers and those in the heart of Government.

Yesterday, I was delighted to welcome the Minister for Industry, Chris McDonald MP, to Chesterton to visit Ibstock. It was a fantastic opportunity for the Minister to see the impact of this local industry first-hand, hear from the workers, and see the brilliant work the company does. Joe and the team lead an incredibly impressive operation, and it was great to have such open, constructive discussions about the future of the sector.

Spending that time on the factory floor is always the most valuable part of these visits. Hearing directly from the ground about the reality of the trade today and the importance of providing a stable, long-term future for British manufacturing.

Seeing the dedication in Chesterton only reinforces why I introduced my British Bricks Bill. There is such skill and opportunity right here on our doorstep, but to let this industry truly shine, we need a plan that prioritises British-made products for British building projects. By backing our local manufacturers like Ibstock, we aren't just supporting a business; we’re supporting the families and workers who are the backbone of our community.

I’ll keep pressing Ministers in Westminster to ensure our industry gets the backing it deserves.

Personally Speaking: 'British bricks must lay foundation for building of much-needed homes'
