Yesterday, I took part in the Christmas Adjournment Debate – an opportunity to reflect on the year in Parliament and to set out the priorities that matter most to people in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
I used the debate to highlight the progress that has been made over the past year, including the real and tangible improvements since the closure notice was issued at Walleys Quarry, and the long-overdue action delivered on pension justice for former British Coal staff. I also raised ongoing local priorities where delivery must now follow promises – including the need for Staffordshire County Council to focus properly on our area, particularly when it comes to SEND provision, alongside road safety and transport.
I also paid tribute to those who serve our community and country throughout the year – from emergency services and Armed Forces personnel to farmers and others whose work often goes unseen – and reflected briefly on the wider international context as we head into the Christmas period.
