Introducing My Road Safety Plans Bill to Parliament

I introduced my Road Safety Plans Bill to Parliament on Tuesday.
The Bill would require local authorities with responsibility for road infrastructure, like Staffordshire County Council, to prepare and publish road safety plans tailored for every school within their area, instead of relying on the one-size-fits-all policies that are currently in place.
It follows increasing concern amongst parents and teachers across Newcastle-under-Lyme – raising issues with dangerous crossings, speeding vehicles, and poor visibility near school gates.
Most notably, the Bill is informed by the tireless campaigning of parents at Meadows Primary School, and many local residents, in Madeley following a serious collision in December 2025, when a local parent was struck by a speeding vehicle while walking his daughter to school.
