Occupation of Gaza: Letter to the Foreign Secretary

Text of my letter to the Foreign Secretary: Dear Secretary of State,

Re: Military Occupation of Gaza

I am writing to you today to raise my grave concerns about the statements from the Israeli Government regarding their intention to occupy the Gaza Strip.

The British Government must oppose any attempts at the permanent displacement of the  Palestinian people and any attempt, in any way, by the Israeli Government to militarily occupy Gaza. Such a move would stand in stark contrast to our values and is not in the interest of any party involved in this conflict.

Let’s be clear – it would be deeply damaging to Israelis and Palestinians alike. It would jeopardise the two-state solution and would, most importantly, threaten the securing of a much needed  and desperately overdue ceasefire.

I would be grateful, as would many of my constituents in Newcastle-under-Lyme, if the British Government, in the strongest terms, condemned any planned military occupation in the strongest terms and at the earliest opportunity. I know from our many discussions since my election to Parliament, for which I’m grateful, how seriously you take this situation.

The scenes, as I said to Parliament back in July, on our TV screens and on social media are beyond comprehension. They are deeply painful and hard to see. As we have discussed, the release of the remaining hostages or honour the memory of those who were brutally murdered in October 2023.

As ever, please do let me know if there is anything further I can do to support the Government’s, and your personal efforts, to secure that much needed ceasefire.

I look forward to your positive and timely response.

Yours sincerely,

Adam Jogee MP
