On 7 May, local people elected their new Borough Council
The new Cabinet will be formed on 20 May. I’m asking them to join the calls of many in our community to listen - and back my demands on Staffordshire County Council to save Baldies Field.
The Petition Reads:
We, the undersigned residents of Newcastle-under-Lyme, call on the newly formed administration of Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council (NULBC) to urge Staffordshire County Council to act to protect Baldies Field and to properly address the serious concerns raised by local residents about the future of this site.
This petition follows the formal presentation of a similar petition to the House of Commons on 15 April 2026, supported by over 480 residents who have already expressed their concerns about proposals affecting this valued green space.
Baldies Field – the green space adjacent to Hoon Avenue and Milehouse Lane – has been used by local people for generations. It is valued by residents as an accessible open space used for walking, recreation, and wellbeing.
Proposals affecting the site have generated significant concern across the community, specifically regarding: traffic congestion, flooding and drainage, and the loss of this space as a public amenity.
As the local planning authority, NULBC has a crucial responsibility to advocate for the community regarding proposals affecting Baldies Field.
We therefore call on Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council to formally urge Staffordshire County Council to listen carefully to the concerns that have been raised by the community; demand full transparency from the County Council regarding any future plans or processes affecting the site; and take all possible steps within the Borough Council's remit to support the protection of Baldies Field for the benefit of the community.
