On Sunday, it was wonderful to welcome the St George’s Day Parade to St Giles Church in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
I was honoured to join the Squirrels, Cubs, and Beavers — along with many members of our local community — for a wonderful and uplifting service led by Reverend Penduck. It was a powerful reminder of how St George’s Day continues to bring people together across generations and backgrounds.
St George’s Day is more than just a date in the calendar — it’s an opportunity to celebrate our history, heritage, and shared culture. From the values of fairness and community spirit to the stories, symbols and traditions that shape our sense of identity, this day is about taking pride in all that England represents.
Here in Newcastle-under-Lyme, we know the strength of community. That spirit was on full display at St Giles on Sunday — in the enthusiasm of the young people taking part in the parade, the warmth of the congregation, and the thoughtful reflections offered in the service. I’m grateful to everyone who helped organise the event, and to everyone who joined in.
As we marked St George’s Day, we celebrated not just our proud history, but also the people and places who carry it forward every day. Let’s keep building a future rooted in the traditions that bring us together — and the shared values that define us.
Happy St George’s Day to all!
