Statement: Betley GP Surgery

I have today been informed by the NHS Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board that Betley GP surgery will close at the end of March 2026.

The current providers have taken the decision to hand back their contract for personal reasons, and the private premises currently used for the surgery will not be available after that point.

While services will continue as normal until March 2026, this will understandably be worrying news for residents who rely on the surgery for essential healthcare.

Access to a local GP is vital, and Betley residents must be able to continue accessing primary care close to home. I will be meeting the Primary Care Team at the Integrated Care Board as soon as possible to press for a clear plan for continued GP provision. I will do everything I can to protect local healthcare services and to ensure residents’ voices are heard throughout this process.

The ICB has begun a patient engagement exercise, and I strongly encourage residents to take part so your views can help shape the options under consideration.

I will continue to engage closely with the ICB and local residents to ensure Betley retains reliable and accessible GP services.
